#DavidCarrollWasRight Pt. 2

In case you’re wondering why I have an image of a squirrel straddling a fence, well, one reason is sarcasm, which leads to the other reason, which you’ll find out as you continue to read this post. I saw a comment from someone on my Dwayne Haskins post, and once again David Carroll came to mind. I referenced him and his commentary in a recent blog.
I’m paraphrasing, but he would mention often in his videos how if you don’t engage in group think/monolithic thought, if you don’t tow the line, if you have a difference of opinion, then there’s a problem. People come out of the woodwork, calling you this, that, and the third or will accuse of doing something that you’re not doing (e.g., taking the side of white people).
Although he was referring mainly to “Black” people, this can be applied to anyone. In my case, it was a Hispanic dude. Apparently, he took exception to my commentary regarding comments made by Adam Schefter and Gil Brandt on Dwayne Haskins. According to the time of the email, he made the comment at 5:19 am, so I guess he was really pissed. Lol.
If I read a response to what I’ve posted, and I start to get an idea of where it’s going, and it’s a bunch of nonsense — like his comment — immediately, I will stop reading. I was wondering what the hell he was talking about. I’m not one to go back and forth with people, and I usually don’t respond to comments, but in his case, I made an exception. I went to my LinkedIn account, where he apparently made the comment, but I couldn’t find it, so I’m not sure if he deleted it or if LinkedIn deleted or hid it, but I couldn’t find it either way.
Now, I don’t have a problem with people disagreeing with me, but it’s how one disagrees that can become an issue. If he was respectful, there’s a chance I wouldn’t have even replied to the comment, but he started off coming at me sideways, asking a smart-ass question, do I “enjoy straddling the fence?” Then he went street on me, telling me that I “talk from both sides of my mouth.” For some reason, I couldn’t find the comment in the comment section of the post, where I was going to respond, so I left him a direct message.
I informed him that what he viewed as “straddling the fence,” I call being fair and balanced, being objective, looking at things from more than one angle, versus riding the wave of the masses, going with popular opinion. This cretin seems to come off as that type who thinks just because the masses think this way about a situation, you’re supposed to fall in line and do the same thing, and that’s not how I operate. If I have a difference of opinion or don’t quite see it the same way or if I see other things to consider in the situation, then I will point that out and speak on that.
I’ll post the link here so you can get a full understanding of where I was coming from. I stated that Adam mentioning Dwayne’s struggles in the NFL in his tweet was unnecessary, but at the same time, I thought the reaction to his tweet was a bit of an overreaction. One of Gil Brandt’s comments about Haskins was that he was a man that lived to die. I understood people’s anger concerning that, especially considering the man just died, however, the Dwayne Haskins situation aside, that statement in and of itself isn’t far-fetched.
This is the fate of most young “Black” men in this society. From being born in a dysfunctional family structure to choosing to live dangerous lives. I don’t understand how the hell this guy came to that conclusion. The only thing I can see is that he thought I was criticizing and defending them in the same breath, and that wasn’t what I was doing.
It’s called being objective, dumbass. (That’s in reference to that clown, not you, the reader). Understanding both sides of a situation versus being narrow-minded or one-sided. I’ve been on the receiving end of one-sided politics, so I know how infuriating that is. Going back to my response to this clown, I told him that’s not my fault if he can’t comprehend my approach or where I’m coming from.
Not long after that I received two messages in my DM, and the LinkedIn AI or bot informed me that the messages contained unwanted or harmful content — so it looks like that was his response to me — and gave me the option to view it if I wanted to, which I passed. I’m sure there were some curse words, racial slurs, and possibly death threats in the messages, but I said what I had to say to him, and I moved on. I wasn’t going to entertain that.
To me, an example of straddling the fence is more like what these religious hypocrites do. They live a life that’s of “God” and the “devil”/ “Satan”. Even their book (the Bible) even says no man can serve two masters.
It’s sad. All of this over a LinkedIn post that had nothing to do with him. As I alluded to earlier, this is not an Aaliyah song, I’m not going to go “back, back, forth and forth” with people. It’s a waste of time. However, I know that as a blogger, this is a path I’ve chosen. I don’t create content, whatever that content may be, and expect everyone to like or agree with it. To me, that would be insane and unrealistic. Unfortunately, these types of people are going to come within territory.
